As a student pilot or flight instructor, there’s a lot you don’t learn about becoming an airline pilot until you’re doing the job EVERY DAY! While I love my job, there are a few pros and cons you should be prepared for. Here are the top 10 things I wish I’d known, or had better preparation for, before becoming an airline pilot. (Cockpit scenes filmed under Part 91 with approval of Envoy Air, Inc.)
The videos I produce are the first example of an airline approved, comprehensive view of becoming an airline pilot. Each video is about a specific topic, something I wish I’d learned before I started flying as a professional pilot. What do you want to learn? Leave me a comment below!

Crazy how this also applies like 70% of the things to be a train driver in Belgium. The comute part, the food part, the schedule part, the work out part, tiring job and the attitude part
#9 🔥💯💪 dislike downers lol
As a relatively new cfi this makes a lot of sense…
You forgot to mention: the alcoholics (who somehow don't get caught) and alcohol culture.
The Eighth grade maturity of most pilots and FAs.
The backstabbing of other airline employees.
The delusional training department and examiners who have been flying for 20 years and expect someone who's never flown the airplane or a jet (except in the simulator) to be up to their knowledge and standards.
The rampant racism towards most non-white pilots.
The batsh!t crazy FAs.
The sex crazed pilots who cheat on their wives and use and dispose of FAs.
The hell of living in a crashpad.
Hey we give our all to get to the cockpit only to complain about every aspect of it. Get out of here man
yOU FAILED TO MENTION HAVING TO PASS THE 1ST CLASS MEDICAL EVERY 6 MONTHS,EXTREMELY IMPORTANT.
he still has to know what side of the flight deck the FO sits.
Swayne, I start training with Envoy this Monday. I really appreciate your videos and especially your attitude toward the job. I have previous 121 time from the late 90's and it drives me crazy to hear today's pilots complaining. It is so much better now in every respect! It really is about what you make it. Psyched for the future!
Man i cant wait to realize my dream
Tell us more about the hours/early starts. Get up at 3am? Show up at 5am? Is that normal? This is the trouble with transport work – plane or truck. Companies maximising on profits from vehicles/aircraft and endless work. 24/7 business. Thus, expected to work round the clock. Am I right? It's a dog's life, if so. Makes sense why there's "seniority" – so a pilot can choose nicer times when he's "manager" level. Sounds like a con job also cos you have to pay 100K+ for your training. And they keep you on under market rates for a time. It doesn't sound like a glamorous job. Seems like a cut throat/depressing industry. Akin to Uber, taxiing, trucking. Graft. No real job satisfaction. Please tell me I'm wrong, cos I'm seriously contemplating this career!
