VW had a pickup truck with folding bedsides in the 1950's.
Toyota sells trucks like that in Australia, etc for years
Scotty, VW made a truck like that and it sold in USA in the 60’s the sides of the bed folded down to make s flat bed, crew cab and canvas top for bed. My older brother had one.

KEI trucks are awesome! You can find good used ones here in the USA for under $5000. I love the simple design and most have manual transmissions! They are small, and I don't think you can drive them on the Interstate though.
