I am a now retired F/A, after 29 years. I have PTSD from this career. Too much stress, all the time…adrenaline overload.
It’s a common misconception that working as an airline pilot is the last step and ultimate goal in a pilot’s career. There are tons of other different (flying) roles for pilots in the industry. ATP is just one among them. Personally, I’d never work for an airline, unless it’s one of those airlines that treat people like people. I find it (usually) monotonous, boring and depersonalizing. Many pilots like it (or love it), and that’s great. But it’s just one job among many others. It’s far from being the ultimate goal or achievement.
For every airline pilot who gets the brass ring, there are 50 who get the shaft. You bust your ass and take home bupkis. I was in the latter category. Just retired after 30 plus years. THRILLED to be out of the rat race. Listen carefully to what this guy says. There are thousands of guys like him in the exact same position. Don't assume that they make big bucks, fly to exotic spots and get laid by hot flight attendants, because 95 percent of them don't.
Good to see you keeping it positive. Gotta balance and adjust. Passion/Profession? Its a hard decision.
