Everyone knows that “Motorcycle” is synonymous with “Freedom” … but why? Motorbikes have the same dynamics as bicycles and go to the same places as cars – what’s so free about that?

Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance:

Fair warning – this is a challenging read. Asking what makes freedom “free” is child’s play compared to Pirsig’s query: what makes good “good”? Fascinating!

Awesome. How about a link to that neuroscience study?

i do disagree with one part, when you said it shouldnt be possible that people can afford fast bikes.. though you were referring to used.. dude.. people should be able to afford brand new bikes.. and the prices should go back to the 90s era.. now they are overpriced… but yes.. the used market is king. cash in hand and patience and you can get good deals on bikes… boats.. and other stuff.. later. i didnt ride in the 90s but if i remember right.. top of line bikes were only 8k.. so ya then a lot of people could actually ride them.. now they dont want people to i guess… .

A lot of people today experience fake adventure through virtual reality. Motorcycle riders have to dodge squids daily to stay alive. This is true adventure.

Freedom has a very broad meaning. Freedom from what???

Explaining it, steals its definition. Questioning this means you dont understand.

Dangerous freedom is preferable to apathetic safety and servitude.

I always felt trapped when out on the bike, it’s not like I could just park it and go hiking or climbing anywhere without worrying about some douche stealing my bike while not standing nearby. I suppose I took it up a coupl,e of levels on the freedumb scale and just now realized it.

Cars are chained to family tradition. Bikes? "I am not ready for family life". You can travel witout car, in the rain and wind and risk to crash badly.
