Everyone knows that “Motorcycle” is synonymous with “Freedom” … but why? Motorbikes have the same dynamics as bicycles and go to the same places as cars – what’s so free about that?

Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance:

Fair warning – this is a challenging read. Asking what makes freedom “free” is child’s play compared to Pirsig’s query: what makes good “good”? Fascinating!

Went out for a ride the other day. 1 1/2 hrs later I stopped to grab some shopping. Completely forgot I was supposed to mask up and sign in. That time was priceless with not a thought of pandemics or anything other than the experience of riding. That is truly meditative in my book. Riding saves my sanity!

I'm not good at wording my feelings or thoughts, but I can tell this
I run daily from home to work and back in my car on a highway, getting past 190 km/h…and it's a great feeling
But when I first tried riding a Harley and got to mere 30-35 km/h I felt it… I felt…like I was free? I don't know what kind of feeling was that, but it's the closest feeling to freedom I ever felt, and I want more

I've had grown up with the dream of owning a motorcycle, inherited by my Harley rider dad. But now, turning 40 I've discovered that growing my own food gives me a much better sense of freedom.

I've thought many times lately about VIRTUAL reality, and ARTIFICIAL intelligence. Steve Jobs talking about his computers being a "bicycle for your mind" is fine, and I wouldn't want to go back to not having these technologies, but the ACTUAL reality of cooking food, or skating on ice, swimming in the ocean, or adventuring on a motorcycle is something we should always value most.

I think being plugged in to tech constantly has been made so convenient, we have to make ourselves pay attention to other things. Our attention has become one of the most valuable commodities, and tech providers are doing all they can to keep you a captive audience.
And we are having this discussion where?…….well, online of course. HaHa

In a car you visit A and B. On a bike you visit the whole journey…

Which motorcycle riders? The only ones constantly shouting about freedom is the americans, who not realize that their country is less free than rest of the western world.

Well done. It's a feeling that only a few understand
