I always hated those half hats looks so stupid see my hate for them has saved my life even tho I dont wear a helmet when I ride 🤣
I used to underestimate legs and feet protection, caring only about head, hands, and core. About 15 years ago I had a very trivial low-speed accident: my not-so-heavy Honda Hornet 600 fell on my leg, the foot rest (a VERY blunt object) went through the side of my leather running shoe, ripped off my foot sole and broke the fifth finger off the ground. Well, you live, you learn.
I quitted riding motorbikes a couple of years after that, but me and my wife are still feeling an itch to scratch and we plan to buy a Vulcan S soon. Your suggestions are invaluable to me and her as well, being a beginner. Thanks for what you do.
Sad to say but: there’s only two kind of riders – – those that have been down, and those that are going down.
I’ve been lucky…been down, never seriously hurt. But that was back in 60’s.
Half helmets are totally pointless. Safety aside they offer no protection from the elements (wind/rain)
Keep your hands on the bars butthead
Keep your hands on your bike you will not need a helmet
1: wear what ever the hell you want
Wearing even Kevlar reinforced jeans is still more a fashion statement that proper gear. For summer use, here in the Four Corners, I wear a two piece ballistic nylon mesh riding suit with full armor. For cooler weather I currently have armored leather pants and a heavy lined leather, unarmored, jacket. I'm replacing the later gear with a fully armored one-piece riding suit to go with my recently purchased Kawasaki Concours 14, which is replacing a Kawasaki Versys 650 that I've had for the last eight years. I've also upgraded my helmet from a $200 solid helmet to a Shoei Neotec 2 modular helmet. I'm also buying calf length riding boots with ankle stiffener, etc. I've been riding bikes for the better part of fifty years and have dropped bikes at low to moderate speeds a number of times. The worst injury was the very first time when I was exiting the freeway on my father's 250cc NSU and there was oil on the off-ramp. I sprained my wrist and put some deep scratches in the helmet. On other similar occasions I was wearing full leathers and helmet and suffered no injury at all.
I have two bells on my Indian. I'm solid….
Don't wear nothing with iron order on it. Bad for your health
