That statistic for suicide is crazy, I've known of five people (luckily not close friends or family, but still not great) to have committed suicide over many years, four were men one was a woman.
I think we all have depression of varying degrees at some point, for some it's can get seriously dangerous if they don't/can't seek professional help. Others, I really believe can have a form of depression that can take them time to even realise they are suffering from it, unfortunately also, some people confuse stress with depression.
By “exposing yourself” you made yourself vulnerable and that’s a brave thing to do. I appreciate the fact that you are wanting to help people that you may not even know personally with something that you have also struggled with. There is a stigma that goes along with mental illness, it’s not fair but it’s out there in society and I think that is a big reason people don’t speak up and ask for help because they are afraid of being labeled. You’re a good man.
Thank you for addressing men's issues in this society that treats men like disposables.
Me: Yo dad, you got prostate cancer?
Dad: I hate you, now i will make a diss track 'bout you
It would be easier to not discuss these topics, especially mental health, but that's what gets us into trouble to begin with. You're a strong person and I support you for being open about your struggles, and acknowledging how difficult it can really be to discuss it.
