Thank you both for such honesty. Much needed that folks know that they're not alone, especially in the present context !

Ian , you are your own worst enemy because you set yourself up to fail not to succeed and in failing, your depression deepens , it's a downward spiral ( I speak from personal experience) fail on one car so buy another and so on which ends in you being overwhelmed by the sheer volume of ( in this case tinkering ) which is what's causing the problem in the first place , I don't have the answer but I wish you and miss hubnut all the best for the future .

I love you guys, so look after each other. Sometimes you need a break so take it. Too many people are suffering this past year or so with mental health. I have been referred to hospital twice for mine but the services in Pembrokeshire are completely useless. I've found a way to handle things for now. Still here so that's good 🙂 Hubnut helps me, too. Along with other channels.

Thank-you both so much for sharing your struggles honestly & helping to dismantle the silence and stigma that surrounds mental health.

I'm a mental health nurse and CBT therapist, but like many others here I struggle to maintain a positive outlook on life and also seem to have endless half-completed projects like the vintage lawnmower, or my father's slide and cine film collection to be sorted and scanned, or his tape recorder, or various vintage hifi items. Sharing issues like this is the first step to dealing with them and working out who to talk to is another. Learning to accept things as they are (mindfulness) is another and moving forward with some kind of talking therapy is another. But the best thing is probably doing and in your case setting reasonable achievable goals. And similarly in my case, I have some things which I hope to achieve tomorrow that will aid my sense of wellbeing. Also bear in mind that not achieving (failing) is the only way us humans learn, so every failure is something to be learned from and one step nearer to success. And finally as has already been stated below, take a balanced view and try to evaluate things in a way that does not put your achievements in a negative, or black and white context (thinking errors).
