This year’s DGR ride was a strange one compared to others, with large groups and organised events being hugely restricted, this years ride was a solo one. The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride has been organised to promote awareness and to raise money for male mental health and prostate cancer.
Being ex armed forces, I find it tragic to see just how many ex and still serving members of the armed forces are struggling to cope with the things they have been put through in their time served. The male suicide statistics are horrific, and the large numbers can be reduced if people could only just see that help is available to them.
Suicide has very much affected my life, and it has broken my heart several times in my short time on this planet. If you know anyone who maybe struggling, please reach out to them and if nothing else, pass on some telephone numbers of where they can seek support.
The Royal British Legion: 0808 802 8080
Samaritans: 116 123
Campaign Against Living Miserably (for men): 0800 58 58 58
In the UK, prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in men with 1 in 8 men being diagnosed as having it in their lifetime. Just in the UK there are over 330,000 men living with the disease.
The Distinguished Gentlemen’s Ride is supporting Movember, a charity that is hoping to halve the number of men dying from the disease by 2030. Research is not free.
Cancer has also affected my life in it’s various forms, as I am sure it has yours, or sadly will at some point in your lifetime. It would be awesome if you could help support either this charity, or another that is close to your heart.
I believe that my fund raising page for the DGR is still able to take donations, there are also many other cancer and mental health charities you could support as an alternative. Please only donate if you can afford to do so.

Well done mate and some great info………….👍
Thanks for posting and raising awareness, looking good! 😀
Great great video, such an important message, and so well presented. I didnt take part this year but did last year. And really hope it makes a difference.
Male suicide has affected so many people (including myself) and you are 100% right, its because we feel we can't show weakness by talking about it and this has to change.
Well done chap ❤
And i love the Empire logo too 😍
A well said message, well done Pete.
Great work pete, some great message there and brilliantly presented.
Thanks again for putting this out, be well and ride safe !!
Wonderful video… very well done!
Yup. A few of my buddies chose that route. Not sure why, but it was very sad. It's strange…I avoid help at all cost, but it's not because I'm defending some sort of "manly" standard. I think it's because I've been relying on myself since I was 14, so why stop now kinda thing. I also love being alone, growing my own food and hunting. Maybe I just haven't evolved. hahahahaha
Well said Peter. It can’t be talked about too much. Looking very dapper in your uniform. Mind you i think you said somewhere in the video that the prostate is close you your heart, so no wonder it was a bit uncomfortable when I had my examination, the doctor went in to check it via my arsehole, he must have been in up to his elbow to reach my heart! Sorry I couldn’t resist it, they say humour is the best medicine hahahahahah!
Wow mate, those statistics are tragic. Well done on talking about it and helping to raise awareness. On a lighter note, you certainly looked very distinguished in your uniform!.. Take care Pete mate
