Welcome to a well overdue Late Brake Show (Non-Tour) ‘Idol Chat’, where we rope an Idol of Jonny’s and/or an Idol to many, for a sit down chat in our tatty brown leather chairs.

For this next ‘Idol Chat’ – of which there are 2 parts, this is just Part 1 – we picked the windiest week of 2022, to drag the tatty chairs down to Kent and meet a multiple motorcycle race champion.

The world of cars and bikes is often segregated and tribal, but we believe there’s a lot of car folks – like us – who appreciate bikes/bike tech/bike racing/bike history, even if we don’t ride much/at all.

Cue Shane Byrne. Six time British Superbike Champion Shane Byrne. Incessant vehicle cleaner. Astonishing death avoider and ’80s Ford thrasher, Shane Byrne. An inexplicably talented rider and a constant smiler.

In Part 2 Shane shows us around his garage, packed full of amazing 2-wheeled heroes.

We have used as short a clip as possible to validate said point(s). We have also used the clip(s) in the confidence that it will act in a positive transformative way to the original clips; with that in mind, please check out The British Superbike YouTube channel and please support them as you are supporting us. For anyone who never saw shakes Byrne before being famous, search for fast bikes show2! Absolute mental on a road bike!

  2. Matt Phillips

Wow I had something Shakey always wanted! A cosworth 😀 I would've swapped it for his talent 👍 get back on it chap!!! Nobody on the grid would want to see that 😂

A question for Shakey… What's behind the green door?

  5. Harleykenn

Who did Shakey go to after Aprilia in Moto GP?

  6. Eddie

How fantastic to see Shakey looking in such good health, happy and optimistic. The question on everyone's lips Shakey; Did you ever cure Wheelieitis! Best wishes friend.

  7. Simon Howarth

Brilliant, such an inspiration on many levels 👌

  8. Philip Minns

Does the thing, talks about it passionately but realistically, recognising the role of luck but not diminishing hard work, and doesn't talk to the police. Top bloke.

  9. Jay O

Such a shame he never got a good stab at MotoGP. The RS Cube was a dog
