Casey Putsch talks about the finer points of driving a manual transmission in his Porsche 944 for everyday and new drivers. I like driving stick cause like you said, it keeps you on your toes. I know my limit when drinking cause I have to be able to lock into shift.

Imagine how low key nervous he was shifting gears while making a video about how to shift gears

I’m a new stick shift driver. I’m driving a c5 z06 (I know, not the best car to learn stick shift on). My biggest problem right now is that I find myself riding the clutch a lot when going slower speeds in first gear, or going around tight corners. If I’m in first gear riding at like 5-10 mph, the car doesn’t like it at all if I let go of the clutch. So I feel like I’m developing a bad habit by keeping the clutch halfway engaged. Is there any fix to this? And when going around corners, I’ll usually just put the car in neutral, and then rev match and back into gear when the road straightens out but this even feels wrong.

This seems…weird. Being from a country where "driving" means "driving a manual", where driving lessons take you through using a clutch and a stick-shift, where it's illegal to drive a manual unless you've taken your test in one…well, the fact that there can be a YouTube video of tips for people who fancy just giving this a try, on their own, on public roads, with zero experience? That is weird.

Imagine a "tips for performing surgery" video, aimed at butchers.

Recently bought a new car and man the shifting with it compared to my old one is DIFFERENT so this will be helpful

Is it bad to throw it into a lower gear first then blip the throttle and left off the clutch?

For a passing downshift I just find it smoother and easier to keep my foot in the throttle the same as when it was to maintain speed in 5th gear and push the clutch until i hear it let go off the flywheel/rpm blip, then I foot off the the accelerator while shifting into 4th. In the close ratio gears in my car its the perfect amount of rpm rise to immediately rev match it into the next lower gear, and since the clutch pedal is already in the process of being cycled, the time to complete the downshift is reduce by quite a bit.
