You are right I listen to many Iranian F14 pilots and they said after 2nd year as soon as we lock on on Iraqi Migs or mirages , they used to dumped their bombs and go back and in one stage Iraq brought new Mercedes and they said whom ever shot F14 will have new Merc but after 2 day one F14 Pilot managed to engage 3 migs and Play with them until migs Pilots realises they haven’t got enough fuels to go back and they ended ejected and after Iraqi removed Mercedes and pilots got shot by dictator Sadam order even there is true story Iranian F14 with one Phoenix managed to kill 3 Migs ( shot the middle one or leader in very close formation)
There are lots of good documented memories by Iranian F14 Pilots
Even right now it’s very capable and beautiful and dangerous bird in the right pilot hands

Very true statement about CAG Ludwig…GREAT pilot, leader and human being. I flew with him twice when he came over to fly with us at HS-4. He got royally screwed over the whole “Tailhook” fiasco. He should have and would have made an OUTSTANDING Battlegroup Commander. We in the WOLFPACK would have followed CAG “Wigs” Ludwig through the gates of hell to destroy our nation’s enemies…FLY NAVY, the best always have and always will!
