Now this why I some people should never teach. The handle bars do everything, leaning your body does nothing for street riding and it sounds like that is what he is teaching. I learned counter steering over 40 years ago, and this kid has not learned it at the time of this video. I have no problem scraping the boards or pegs on a bike sitting up straight while doing it. This is painful to listen to and watch. Nikki is no where near reading for the road and DDFM wants on the street, she can't control a bike in an empty parking lot. I got my licence in 1971 and taught myself everything back then. Had someone tell me about counter steering over 40 years ago, which is the 2nd most import thing to learn, stopping being #1. The rear brake is good on slow speeds and your only brake on sand and gravel. Panic braking is needed to ride the street unless you like crashing into cars that will pull out in front of you.

20mph or 80mph… gear should be worn correctly for maximum protection. The sort of advice Dan would tell us right?…. yet this woman is casually riding around with the jacket not zipped up and open (plus exposed). Might as well not be wearing the jacket at all then as a frontal impact or fall and her upper body is vulnerable to alot of road rash, or worse. 🤔 Perhaps love is blind. 👍😂 EDIT: Just noticed YouTube "suggested" this video….. 1 year after being originally posted. 🙄

I know this is an older video, but I'll comment anyway: Nikki, get a new instructor. It's hard to take instruction from an intimate friend because of the perceived pressure to do well, and the internal conflict that is bound to occur when a simple personal failure feels like a ton of regret towards those trying to help you.

The good news: she's wearing protective gear.
The bad news: the jacket isn't zipped up. Not going to help too much should she slide on her – well, let's say face down.

Man!!! Nikki is a warrior!!! I just wish I could boost my confidence to move my bike without walking it now in the alley every day for (15) minutes!!! I have a Yamaha SCR950, I’m 5’5”, 44 years old & just started since past life didn’t allow the time to learn

I think the turning is easier on a standard. Lot of leverage in the foot pegs, especially when your weight is directly over them.

When slow stopping use the rear brake. You can slow stop using the front brake, but you better make sure the handlebars are straight and the balance is perfect. Even then you're going to have a sudden shift in the weight of the bike, and you better be ready to put one leg down strong. Therefore, it's a lot of easier just to gently slow stop with the rear brake. Even if you stop hard with the rear brake, it's a lot easier than doing it with the front brake. A lot easier to control. And you look more graceful, as in cool!

Engine guards? Good idea.. I had just put engine guards on my bike and 1 mile from home a lady ran a stop sign and i went down. Fortunately it was slow speed and only scratched the brand new engine guards and mirror. Would have been more damage had I not. Ironically it was the only time in 30 years the bike or I went down. 😡 It happens.
