I struggled with addiction for almost 10 years. I have been in and out of jail/prison for years. I now have my Bachelor’s degree in criminal program support services. πŸ“š I hope to use my experience in the system and my degree to help others better understand addiction and our prison system. This story is based on my own personal opinion and experiences.

They have these visits in the lower level prisons in uk. The visitors don't stay over but they get family there for like an afternoon. In a space with toys for kids etc. (saw a documentary about it). It really helps the inmate. But impacts the families as this visit is taken away if the prisoners do something wrong like get into a fight.

I went to jail once (not prison) and our block had 5-6 girls in a 2 person cell. So 3 girls had to sleep on the floor on a mat. But that wasn't the worst part. Some of the girls were sleeping in sewage….

So even with my experience with the prison/jail system. (Friends not myself). I was still today years old at this moment when it clicked that cell phones were coming in by the guards for some reason my mind pictured the Waiting room hand off and it going in to the mans inner pocket😩. I never figured out how they could make it work but I figured the pocket fits what it needs to fit. So when they started getting smart phones I was like😳😩. That’s has got to hurt . I don’t know why guards never crossed my mind. I left them for cigarettes and alcohol. My minds πŸ‘€s have been opened todayπŸ€¦πŸΎβ€β™€οΈπŸ€·πŸ½β€β™€οΈπŸ’—
I agree with bring back privileges
Why take away cigarettes. That was a control thing I believe and I too agree with family conjugal visits. They should have never started taking that away. Ppl worked hard to not lose those. We have so much to do on prison reform

    How absolutely horrific.

I had some random guy message me on facebook once from a prison in the US. Didn't know him or who he was, no mutuals and i don't even live in the US. Every couple of weeks he'd go offline for a while and then reappear when he got a phone, i don't think there is a prison that exists where guards aren't bringing stuff in.

I've only recently discovered your channel and I am loving it. I'm also a recovering addict who's been in prison for assault with a deadly weapon (not in the US but in the netherlands), you truly do crazy stuff to support your addiction, I even stole from my brothers and family. But I am a whole new person now, I moved to Sweden and I am now living the happily ever after with my wife and 9 year-old step-daughter. Your channel speaks to me in ways nothing else can or ever will because they really don't know what it's like.

Thank you. From the bottom of my formerly black heart.

Love from a Dutch guy in Sweden.

Inmates should not have congeal visits at all

I've said this before and I'll say this again, being in prison is the punishment. Not being able to go and do what you want and be with your family in your own home is the punishment. They don't need to add inhumane punishments on top of that. If they actually focused on rehabilitation instead of packing people in boxes to make money off their backs then people might stop coming back. But they don't want that, they need to keep the prisons packed to make a profit. We need to stop privatized prisons.
