Get the Van Conversion Guide:
Why is vanlife so big right now and what is it for? In this video, I share my thoughts on these questions. I do think it is a bit of a shame that something that can be used to transform your life or enable you to do amazing things is slowly being co-opted into another consumer goal.

Im surprised where did this price tag came from. My van Ford Transit 2011 costs around 5-5,5k, usually has around 200k-300k km. The conversion I did for 1,5k. My monthly expenses while on the road are around 4k, sometimes even less. Im not van fulltimer, i live in in about 3-5 months a year. While doing webdesign, journalism and graphics (not IT, just design) I can earn 5k in one 40 hours work week. All people i know have vans between 4k and 10k max. Never heard of anyone with 50k van, except some youtube videos, but in reality no. Im from Czech Republic (central Europe) , so I travel around mostly in the EU countries, Balkans and Northern Africa. While Im not travelling, Im usually having a seasonal job at my city, organising international documentary film festival (Prague), working on our house and studying. Its a beautiful lifestyle, that offers me a balance between productive/work life and discovering and learning about the world through my own eyes. Since I started living like this, I feel much better than before, being lost between what others expected of me and what I expected of life I have only one.
The system sells you the inoffensive dissidence against itself.
Hey Nate!! Incredible video!! And so inspirational!! Truly! It dents us all on the correct path on the view of vanlife.
Major question though: how can someone do art really, in a van??
There isn't enough the space, to do that! It's not a studio that one can take with!
For me that would be the purpose of going into van life (which I have been dreaming of for the last couple of years),to get back in touch with my artist inside and really get into it again. Possibly be one of the revenue I could bring from on the road.
But it doesn't have much space, vanlife.
So how do you think artists can be a part of this?
Cheers
