Pulling the choke out allows more fuel into the engine via the carburettor/s when starting from cold. You push it back in once the engine has started/warmed up. Modern cars do this for you via electronic fuel injection.
I own two MG's. I would guess that the car is really bouncy because the shocks are empty of oil. Your riding on the springs. You have to manually add oil to each shock. Once you get the shocks squared away and go with a bigger anti-sway in the front they handle really good in the turns. Not sure why the steering is so hard. Usually these cars have pretty light steering even though they are manual.
Love it I've had 2 of them and looking for num3
Actually a six speed gearbox. It has overdrive on 3rd and 4th. Switch on the right marked "Overdrive" controls it
The choke is a fuel enrichment device on MGs with SUs.
New starter motor….. picture of the alternator.
Looks like a prime candidate for a V6/V8 conversion (I love my SBC MGB)—1964 SBC MGB refesh on YT
