Today I’ll show how to restore old corroded crusty aluminum alloy wheels with aerosol spray paint, and even using can of paint and a brush for the accents.
I achieved professional results with a mix of different products that were never designed to be used together, right at home in my garage.
No compressor or spray gun equipment needed!

Three take away's from this video. 1) You are one determined, hard working dude. 2) I wont do something like this because it is just too much work. 3) You do great work, but time is far more important. I'd just buy some wheels and spend time like that in places where it'll matter a whole lot more.

It looks worse than it is that's just a little clear coat coming off. Put some JASCO on and that shit peels off like nobody's business. Then hit it with MOTHERS aluminum polish.😊

I have been true to this session corrosive

~@8:20 Did you clean anyhow that primed surface, or you just painted it. See I primed one side of the wheel (internal), and in many places the prime (I used Rust-Oleum Automotive Primer) was like a layer of chalk. I wiped it out, it was a lot, like a thick layer of dust. Then I just washed that wheel. The primer adhere to some parts (best where there was a bare metal), but not everywhere where is was painted surface. I think maybe I should just go over that primed surface w/paint, so together they would adhere, or I did something wrong. The primer is for Metal and Fiberglass surfaces. When you touch that primed surface, should it stay on your fingers or not? I would appreciate any opinion on this matter, I googled and nothing about it. Some people use application of Glass Cleaner before and between layers of paint. The wheels are not aluminum, they got a bit rusted, I removed that rust, prepared surface, but smth went wrong w/Primer, I think. Thank you for this detailed film.

I would have painted the black before the rest first, then sanded lightly to remove overspray. Once all were painted, tape them off to protect and then do the primer and buildup, siler plating et al, They look good but you had less work the other way. I wonder if clear epoxy would protect them around the edges and surfaces better from tire changing tools and road salts. Still nice work and very detailed video.

Tchaikovsky 1812 Overture. Never thought I’d hear that in a rim restoration video. Happy birthday America. Nice video.

I am more than impressed! That was a lot of work but the results are well worth it. You must have saved hundreds of dollars by doing this. Maybe more! An outstanding video by far!

i used to have a 96' LandCruiser with those wheels and the machine finish had that same kind of corrosion. Never got around to making them nicey nice but enjoyed the truck when we had it. Great job you did refinishing them

This is, by far, the best wheel painting video on YouTube.
I’ve watched hundreds, and while there are lots of great videos, this one is in depth yet extremely simplistic. Your narration and explanation sounds like it was professionally produced. Well done and the wheels look like new! I also enjoyed your reaction when your son made his cameo! 😂
