Don't buy the nonsense that motorcycle can not have cats to burn off the bad stuff. BMW have used cats on their bike for over the last 20 years. The problem is that people that have cat on their bike pull them off. And they want more flow and louder pipes. I have been running bikes with cats for the last 20 years. Look at the EC regs, they are as tight for bike as cars now a days. That is why BMW are going to water cool engine to meet the new regulations on their r series.

Actually the power generated at power plants is done more efficiently than in an ICE so even if you were just powering an ebike from the grid it would still be cleaner than a gas bike of equivalent power. Of course not as clean as from renewables but still.

Hi Lali and Dutchess, she looks so sweet and well behaved, this topic is very interesting, i've seen a few reviews of electric bikes and they can offer some exhilarating acceleration with maximum torque at zero rpm, low maintenance and zero emissions, a lot going for them. The downside is the relevant silence, the one in your video sounded like a vacuum cleaner, not very inspiring, i would miss the beautiful exhaust tunes and having a blip going under bridges, all part of the experience. The time is approaching when the manufacture of the internal combustion engine will cease so we had better get used to the idea. I believe cars are going to have some sound introduced for safety. I'm sure, once the major manufacturers get on board, they'll start producing dream bikes. Cities with clean air to breathe, power has to be generated, solar is increasing but the ultimate, fusion power, could be hundreds of years away, nuclear is increasing slowly, still the nuclear waste problem. A quantum battery is a future possibility, so much research going on you can never say no.

I took a test ride of an electric motorcycle and it was not normal for me. Everything seemed so wrong, the throttle response was not good and it had CBS. I don't hate CBS if it works for you its great but I like having individual control of my brakes and yes charging the bike and whether the source was clean or not is a concern. I don't know 😅 let's see what happens.

For me, an E bike will become the better alternative, when solid state batteries technology will be ready for use.

Great discussion topic, thanks! Curbing moto emissions has thankfully come a long way; no catalytic converter on my old bikes, but my 2020 Z900 is Euro-5 compliant, and that spec is quite stringent: https://www.acem.eu/new-euro-5-environmental-standard-for-motorcycles-and-mopeds-to-enter-into-force-in-2020. Totally agree with you that electric motos won't save the planet; in fact, the Euro5 spec might do more for the planet than electric bikes, simply because it will likely have a greater impact overall.

I've been around a while and I've seen and heard all the doomsayers. I've heard 1990, the rainforest gone and we're all dead. When that came and went, it was 2000. And so on.
I've been to many countries in my life. One of those, Germany, was very interesting when the wall came down. Communism lost it's mystique and people saw what it really was. (I have relatives that were trapped in East Germany until the wall came down). The funny thing was the Communist political party in Germany had to change it's look. They changed to the Green Party because they could get all they wanted under the guise of saving the planet.
It's a tool. Our planet is affected by the sun more than anyone knows. Something that interests me greatly is the idea that the universe is electrical.

I don't want an electric bike and I'm not going to buy one I'm going to ride my tuono until they forcibly remove it from my cold dead hands 👐
