If, like me, you live in a city that is not very bike-friendly, bicycle commuting can sometimes be intimidating. But bike commuting is an amazing way to improve your life, so I thought I’d share a few tips I picked up over the years the hard way. Hopefully, this video will help you avoid some of the mistakes that I made.

2:19 Choosing the wrong route
3:13 Being impatient with the logistics

I don’t really do proper product reviews, but here are some products that I’ve tried on this channel that I like. (Of course, you don’t need anything fancy to ride a bike, other than a bike, but these are Amazon affiliate links, and I get paid a small commission if you buy them 😉)
• Here’s the winter bike I’m riding these days:
• Cliq Smart Bike Light (nice rear brake light):
• RedShift Acrlight Smart LED Pedals (clever lights for your pedals):
• Aftershokz Titanium bone-conducting headphones (if you want to listen while you ride):
• JBL CLip 4 Waterproof Bluetooth Speaker (for your party-pace group rides):
• Crane Bicycle Bell (the ding is sublime):
• Ibex Merino Wool clothing (good for summer and winter):
• Bicycle Cargo Net (why did it take so long for me to buy one of these?):
• Vaude Cover II Rain Poncho (for higher-end, try Cleverhood or People’s Poncho):
• Kryptonite U-Lock (your bike is going to get stolen eventually, sigh, but at least make it difficult on the thief):
• Peak Design phone case (the one I use, paired with the Peak Design phone mount):

this really depends if you are completely averse to maintenance or don't mind doing a bit of maintenance once a year
My hybrid bike was free so I cant complain
mistake #9: not wearing a helmet.
I wear a proper Cycling Jersey that's made from Technical fabric, a Gell padded sadle will a Lambswool cover, proper Cycling nicks that are padded and give grip on the saddle for safety and if I have an accident offer far more protection than what you are wearing which would leave you a bloody-mindedness mess in a fall. I also have a spine protector and wrist guard's and proper Cycling shoes that fit into my pedals and again provide protection. After having a few falls, breaking 3 helmets and dealing with gravel rash I would rather wear full gear not fools gear. I take the same approach on Motorcycles. Oh and my spinal protection is from Motorcycle gear, remember you only get one spine, and one head and one set of shoulders, and wrists, do better and set a better example
This was very helpful actually, thank you.
4:20 is the matrix glitching again? I thought they patched it ☺
i had a hand-me down / thrifted bike with horn bars, and i went wild for 2 – 3 years riding the hell out of it. I was on the trails. I was on the city streets. Mr. Bike guy. But i didn't stretch properly before or after my sessions, and i spent all my other time when not biking sitting in computer chairs. So I caused a decade long hip and lower back issue. "Doing To Much" really hits home lol as the first tip.
Some good hints, I think it would be nice to title the video something like "8 things not to worry about if you'd to like cycling to work".
hey Calgary!
