If, like me, you live in a city that is not very bike-friendly, bicycle commuting can sometimes be intimidating. But bike commuting is an amazing way to improve your life, so I thought I’d share a few tips I picked up over the years the hard way. Hopefully, this video will help you avoid some of the mistakes that I made.

I don’t really do proper product reviews, but here are some products that I’ve tried on this channel that I like. (Of course, you don’t need anything fancy to ride a bike, other than a bike, but these are Amazon affiliate links, and I get paid a small commission if you buy them 😉)

• Here’s the winter bike I’m riding these days:
• Cliq Smart Bike Light (nice rear brake light):
• RedShift Acrlight Smart LED Pedals (clever lights for your pedals):
• Aftershokz Titanium bone-conducting headphones (if you want to listen while you ride):
• JBL CLip 4 Waterproof Bluetooth Speaker (for your party-pace group rides):
• Crane Bicycle Bell (the ding is sublime):
• Ibex Merino Wool clothing (good for summer and winter):
• Bicycle Cargo Net (why did it take so long for me to buy one of these?):
• Vaude Cover II Rain Poncho (for higher-end, try Cleverhood or People’s Poncho):
• Kryptonite U-Lock (your bike is going to get stolen eventually, sigh, but at least make it difficult on the thief):
• Peak Design phone case (the one I use, paired with the Peak Design phone mount):

What you saying is so obvious It’s kinda insulting for people with some brain cells 😂 it’s almost like message to some alien species who just landed on planet earth 😅

Calgary looks so idyllic for cycling in your videos!
    Nice video angles
Mittens and snowboots are my friends for the many winter days when trials are snow free in the winter

Calgary looks like a beautiful city. your choices in filming locations framed it well, nice work!

Why aren't you wearing a helmet? A car or the ground doesn't care about how you look with one.

I am only cycling slow and for "health" reasons. But I feel much more comfortable in cycling pants. It's just practical… It's comfortable for me from 15 to 25 Celsius… A few times I got fully wet and it was still warm because of the material it is made of…

For me it's not that I want to look cooler, it's just practical. I would prefer to wear jeans, but it's just not comfortable at all…

And compared to the author I have a lot of gear on my bike.
    Phone holder
    Front bag
    Rear bag
    Small pump
    Few hexagons
    Lights
    Mirror (recently)
    Power bank
Tools to repair tire (after one time I needed one and don't have one)
    Warm clothes.

Also for a year or two I am wearing a hydration backpack… I started after I understood my knees were in pain because I didn't drink enough…

Also I always wear glasses and I have no idea how to ride without those… Dust, sand etc…

But I am trying to avoid the city's big streets as much as possible… So yeah, if you're 99% in the streets – you don't need much…

And I think many things change with distances… 5km in jeans – no problem… 30km in jeans – I'd rather not)

tip nine … don't make videos with you're phone on a stick while riding. 😂🙃 I cycle a lot in the Netherlands and you can tell when someone is in front of you if they are on their phone. Tip ten… stretch out your arm before you make a turn left or right. I cannot read your mind 🥴

my tip: if buying a bike – specifically for the city which is quite flat – dont be tempted to buy a bike with gears! you'll literally end up using the same gear which is somewhere in the middle (not too hard not too soft to push/cycle) – which is exactly a single gear bike is – and its really hard to break and super easy to fix on the road. There's tons of things that needs cleaning and maintenance for a bike with gears
