Depression is a definite, serious problem among the truck driver community.
Over 13% of truck drivers suffer from some level of depression, staggering figures.
A truck driving career leaves a driver alone for very long periods of time, which is sometimes not healthy for the individual. The job is also very high stress which can reek havoc on a truck driver.
There are signs of mild depression which every driver should be aware of. Extra tense and easily angered, feeling extra tired, uninterested in favorite activities, feeling generally unwell etc.
Look for these common signs.
There are a few simple ways to combat mild depression. Taking a pet along on trips, focusing on general health, good eating and exercise can be helpful, making contact with homebase on a daily basis, enjoying a hobby or favorite activity for a period of time each day are just a few.
If you feel you cannot cope with what you think may be depression, there’s nothing shameful about reaching out for professional help.
Or in the alternative, leaving your driving job and getting your mental health back on track.
No job is worth sacrificing your health for.

My dad used to come home and would be so anger and anyone could ask a simple question or do something that would set him off . We thought it was drugs when we got older . High speed chicken feed. He finally retired and I got my daddy back now that I'm almost 40 . Its definitely real ! Thanks for this

I think one of the biggest misconceptions about clinical or depression in general, is that it's environmental or situational. It's not…

People have ups and downs all the time. When your dog passes away, you're sad, not depressed. Depression is largely a genetic disorder that is passed down unfortunately.

For instances, depression largely affects only one side of my family. While the opposite side of my family it is nowhere to be found.

Regardless, if you are feeling unnecessarily saddened for long periods of time or mood swings continue to increase over time. Find some help. Failing to communicate these types of problems to loved ones, friends, or a professional is the biggest problem.

I feel like trucking can pull a lot of men and woman out of depression as well,
For example they could come from Bad relationship with spouse , no money/poor, wanting to travel while getting paid, coming from being homless & much more.
