‘Be a man’, ‘Man up’ ‘Men Don’t Cry,’ ‘Macho’ ‘Provider,’ ‘Protector’ ‘Strong’. These are all phrases and words said to or about men. They have formed how boys and men perceive themselves and behave for generations. But what has been the result of these age old perceptions and attitudes? What does being man mean or even look like? Is there need to rethink what masculinity is in this day and age? Well tonight the men have their say and hopefully answers these questions. Joining me in studio at our Men’s roundtable is Eddy Kimani, a seasoned media practitioner, entrepreneur and mental health champion, Pastor Simon Mbevi, founder of Transform Nations which facilitates the ‘Man Enough’ program, Octopizzo, award winning hip hop artist and activist and Ian Jege, a digital marketer, entrepreneur and founder of True North. But before we get the conversation started let’s hear what some young men in Nairobi’s CBD had to say about how they manage the pressures of life.

All humanity, and especially men must Take Responsibility for their own lives, regardless of the situations they find themselves in.The men always seem to have a Scapegoat ( culture, society, social media, women, etc). In the same way they put in great effort to make money, study, do politics they should also put in great effort to take responsibility for their emotional and mental health. They have become accustomed to finding someone or something Other Than Themselves to blame. This is being Selfish, a hallmark of the Sinful Nature of Fallen Man. In contrast, women Take Responsibility for very messed up situations they did not put themselves in and seek help, support, guidance, etc and move on with life. These men just want a Crutch to use to avoid Taking Responsibility for Themselves.
