This is a topic RARELY addressed in the trucking industry. Trucking companies do not want their drivers to know these risks.
When a CDL driver is involved in an accident, there is the possibility that they could be sued or criminally charged, especially in this age of ‘distracted driving’.
Many professional truck drivers aren’t aware of the fact they could be personally liable, should they be found at fault in a particular accident. Many professional drivers believe, no matter what, the trucking company they work for, will defend them against any and all charges while driving a truck.
This simply is not true. Are you willing to bet your life on the fact, that for some reason, they could leave you on your own to defend yourself? It can and does happen.
This is one of the many reasons, truck driving jobs should pay well. A truck driving job is a risky job and it ought to pay accordingly. Risky jobs for the most part, pay reasonably well.
This however, does not seem to be the case in the trucking industry.
Something all professional drivers ought to be aware of.

Good and true info. Some points for new drivers: there's a trucking shortage so there's a ton of freight. Don't speed, of course we all speed but going by odds the odds are the more you stay close to the limit the better. Stay in your lane and expect anything from any driver on the road. Mentally go thru the physical motions whether you throw the jbrake on or quick downshift, just dont swerve abruptly. Utilize your hazard and brake lights to communicate also marker lights. Add extra following distance especially if you're in the far left or right lane there can always be a car on the side of the road with people outside of it and you can't see them if you're too close to a truck in front. Retrain your brain to cruise.. Its not a car and it's not a race. Definitely get a dash cam.

I don’t watch the movie , I listen . It keeps the long miles moving quick.

I agree with you though, there are definitely risk. My most disliked areas to drive through our Nashville Tennessee because of the congestion, Amarillo on I 40 because of the construction in the clusters of cars, and most definitely New Jersey .

Listen to me , listen to me , a truck wheel is torqued at 500 Lbs per square inch if the wheel is way less than that , a normal human cannot turn the nut by their fingers to find out , it’s to tight so when a wheel comes off and God forbid someone gets hurt or killed , it’s the drivers responsibility so the driver faces charges even though the driver inspected the wheels on their pre trip there are many moving and welded parts on these big trucks that under some surcomestances things can come loose and fall off during driving on different road and weather conditions , the driver always has one foot in the grave and the other in jail am I correct ? Sorry for the spelling but you know what I mean 🙂

The good old days are over. They will throw anyone with a good license. Dummys everywhere. Scammers everywhere. Never work as a 1099. Demand your insurance. Demand your workers comp. Dont fall pray to the 1099 scam. If you get scammed, fill out a SS8 with the IRS. Dont get 30 + years in this and end up homeless with no social security. NOTHING. These trucks are to much money now and plugged with emissions. Dont give up your family and kids growing up. I missed everything. Im old and have no retirement.

I understand what you are implying. Truck drivers should pursue different careers since the trucking industry is becoming more strict. Duly noted!
