This book is going to help you understand the important “dos and don’ts” of the motorcycling world!

➡️ Improper Use of Vision:
Vision is the most critical skill we can develop for riding a motorcycle. The two most critical locations on the road where we make mistakes are at intersections and when we’re cornering.
➡️ Failing to Predict Danger (Situational Awareness):
Our brains are constantly analyzing trends in an effort to make predictions. The brain performs this function in an effort to predict danger and maximize our self-preservation. Predicting danger within our environment means we need to identify, process, and comprehend the critical elements of information about what is happening to survive our ride.
➡️ Overestimate Riding Abilities (Riding Within Limits):
To be successful riders, we’ll need to be able to understand the difference between the risks we are taking and the skills we actually possess.
➡️ Underestimate Effects of Aging:
We spend billions of dollars in this country to try to stop and even reverse the effects of aging. If we misunderstand the effect aging is having on our ride, we can unwittingly add risk to our ride.
➡️ Accepting More Risk Through Less Riding Gear:
Personal protective equipment designed for motorcycling is necessary to reduce our risk and increase riding enjoyment. The less we wear, the more we increase our risk.

Great tips as usual! As a new rider I've noticed a lot of bikers believe you should be going AT LEAST 20 mph over the posted speed limit no matter the traffic or weather conditions. Hate to say it, but some riders are begging to get ended.

I’ll just add this: I’m only alive because I wore a helmet – and that was just for a relatively low-speed bicycle accident.

    Always wear a helmet.

I have never, ever regretted the extra two seconds it takes to put a helmet on, and I am alive because of that helmet. Think of yourself, your future, and your loved ones.

Heck, think of folks like Dan who work as first responders and the trauma they process when dealing with the aftermath of tragic accidents.

Helmets aren’t just a safety measure. They’re your responsibility – and not just to yourself.

Driving a car for 10 years helped me to be a better motorcycle driver now at teh age of 30. I've always noticed how hard it was to spot motorcycles and how dangerous lane splitting is. Cars don't always drive recklessly. It's just very hard to see motorcycles especially if they come from behind between traffic at a way to fast speed.

Now since I've really became a good car driver I am a much better motorcycle driver because I know I am invisible so I try to avoid car blind spots or always expect vehicles to drive in front of me. I also don't lane split if the traffic move faster than 20kmph and when I lane split I do it as if every car will turn in front of me even without their indicators. I avoid dangerous intersections if I can and road work areas. I become humble on my motorcycle because arrogance will get you killed. You never compete with a car. You give way and avoid them. It is your life that is in danger not theirs.

Bad habit of me, which almost cost me my life once already is, I REALLY underestimate myself, so I always ride pretty slow, don't take sharp turns etc…tried to drive a corner at normal speed once with friends (we were trying to get me to drive normal) got panic and slammed the breaks so I first drove into the other side of the road and tried to correct it and hit the fence on our side of the road.

Why does Dan have one finger on the front brake while he’s riding?
