This book is going to help you understand the important “dos and don’ts” of the motorcycling world!

➡️ Improper Use of Vision:
Vision is the most critical skill we can develop for riding a motorcycle. The two most critical locations on the road where we make mistakes are at intersections and when we’re cornering.
➡️ Failing to Predict Danger (Situational Awareness):
Our brains are constantly analyzing trends in an effort to make predictions. The brain performs this function in an effort to predict danger and maximize our self-preservation. Predicting danger within our environment means we need to identify, process, and comprehend the critical elements of information about what is happening to survive our ride.
➡️ Overestimate Riding Abilities (Riding Within Limits):
To be successful riders, we’ll need to be able to understand the difference between the risks we are taking and the skills we actually possess.
➡️ Underestimate Effects of Aging:
We spend billions of dollars in this country to try to stop and even reverse the effects of aging. If we misunderstand the effect aging is having on our ride, we can unwittingly add risk to our ride.
➡️ Accepting More Risk Through Less Riding Gear:
Personal protective equipment designed for motorcycling is necessary to reduce our risk and increase riding enjoyment. The less we wear, the more we increase our risk.

I don't understand why people don't use a helmet. I got hit by a car from the rear, while stopped at a stop sign. The offending driver admitted he was going to run the stop sign and try to beat the very car I was waiting to let pass. I went airborne and "flew"! There was a nasty scar on the right rear portion of my helmet where my head hit the corner of a concrete curb. That was 25 years ago. To this very day I keep the key to my bike in my helmet. When I'm ready to ride, I'll be needing them both, in addition to other gear.

What kind of motorcycle do you have

I am 68 years old. Speak for yourself! I ride with many younger riders. Outperform them every time. Done the Iron Butt. Returned to motorcycles after 50 years. Do not ride inherently slow. Many of the "younger" riders on their "superbikes" have a hard time keeping up (safely). With age comes wisdom. Sounds like you're a little "ageist."

1 thing I see a lot, people dress for the ride, not the slide,be safe everyone.

6:56 I am almost 34 and just got my first bike tonight (2002 SV650). I have wanted one ever since I was a little kid, but because I always lived in apartments in the city, I never had a place to store one. I bought a house last fall with a garage and one of the first things on the list was to get a motorcycle. I feel like a teenager again, this is amazing. Because of covid, there is not another MSF course until 2 weekends from now, so I guess until then I will just do laps around the neighborhood streets and get comfortable. I am a HUGE fan of your videos and have probably spent dozens of hours watching you and yammie noob over the past few months. It was late at night when I received shipment of the bike and because it has an absurdly loud full exhaust I was not about to practice riding and piss off all my neighbors, so I just spent about an hour pushing the bike around my driveway/garage backwards and forwards and getting a feel for the weight. I was also backing it into little pretend parking spots to get comfortable with that so I don't embarrass myself the first time I need to park my bike somewhere kinda tight. Anyway, thanks for the awesome content, I am a huge fan.

One substantial danger is the car behind you bumping you off because they’re looking down at their phone. I’ve had 2 cars written off while stationary and the guy behind flew in at 60 mph on the highway. On a bike it would have been fatal.

Bad Habits? Only one mirror on the left side! Right mirror below the bar sometimes blocking view!
