    Main problem was when you said "the 'second' thing to do is adjust the calliper" what you should do is adjust both inner and outer pads FIRST with the h/brake cables backed right off. Then adjust the cable to give the desired travel of the lever. DE-glaze the pads might help too.

    How the hell did you not notice your ball joint needed replacing with that much play? It's like riding a tricycle and not noticing one of your wheels was missing. Stay off the red wine for a while. Your nose will thankyou for it.
