If you want progressive braking use the 1 finger tecnique and use a shorter brake lever as for the rear brake you adjust it so it doesn't lock up.. By introducing some air into the brake line. Then you'll have a automatic rear brake it will stop you but won't put you on your arse by locking up in a panic situation.

The field instructor is a cool guy, but the other…. 😀

Here in the UK we're not so much 'Born to Ride' as 'Born to Swerve'. Pot holes, myopic motorists, Kamikaze hedgehogs, bits of tree branches, wet leaves/ salt on corners, mud, fresh tarmac and loose asphalt are all part of the joy of riding here. Put a Brit biker on a road with none of the above and we'd probably start to swerve through force of habit.

I can't fathom why you would be repeating so many times that you cannot learn this stuff without attending a paid course. that you can't practice this stuff on your own, or on a road somewhere, that the only way to learn this stuff is with an certified instructor. I've taken these courses and its literally the exact same information presented the same way, the only difference is there is somebody to watch you try it a few times on a closed course (empty parking lot) and will give you pointers, many will let you try it first on their training bikes; these are the only differences. Telling everybody that they shouldn't practice on their own unless they pay a bunch of money to attend a professional class is just shilling and doesn't help the majority of bikers. Any biker absolutely can and should be practicing this stuff on their own. There are a lot of safe places to practice that aren't manicured closed courses run by paid training programs; lots of courses don't have important features that DO exist in the real world, like gravel on the pavement, or slopes. just my $.02.

Crazy to think that the MSF is optional for you guys, but here it's mandatory before you are even allowed to go on the road. It's the first thing you do when going for your license.

Close to the Army's "Stay Awake Stay Alive" but yours has a different meaning, so You're good.
