I took the motorcycle safety class in Aug 17, before I bought a bike. They taught us when swerving, the first thing to do is counter steer. i.e. to swerve left the first motion is the push your left hand forward. My 1st bike was a Gold Wing. In Oct 17 I took a trip cross country. Somewhere in Texas on a small dark two lane road between Austin and Houston I had a Semi Truck going the opposite direction. To avoid looking into the head lights, we were taught to look towards the right edge of the road. Once the truck passed me, I saw a dead deer in my lane. Totally due to the training I had swerved the bike around the deer and back to straight before I could even process what happened. One small note. In the video you appear to “throw” the bike to the side, then catch it. On gold wing that’s not gonna work. The bike weights 900+ lbs. If I tried to throw the bike left, the only thing that would happen is I would be on the ground on the right side. By pushing the left hand forward, the front wheel moved right causing the bike to lean left. Then as if I was in a left hand turn, I could steer left around the obstacle, then turn right at a rate to bring the bike both back into my lane, and upright. It’s a lot of words to describe what the body just seemed to know due to two days of training.
