The Aspark Owl, a Japanese electric hypercar, has set two new world records for the highest average speed by an electric car over an eighth and a quarter of a mile (201m and 402m respectively). The quad-motor Owl averaged 309.02km/h for the eighth, and 318.85km/h for the quarter-mile standing sprint.

Originally presented as a concept car in 2017, the Owl generate claimed outputs of 1480kW and 2000Nm from its four electric motors which are capable of rotating at up to 15,000rpm. Equipped with a specially developed 64kWh lithium-ion battery pack, the Owl has a claimed range of up to 450km and a top speed of 400 km/h.

In previous tests at the Misano World Circuit in Italy, the Owl has achieved a 0-60 mph (97 km/h) sprint in just 1.72 seconds. Aspark claims the Owl is the “fastest-accelerating car in the world” and suggests it can go even faster. The video below, dating back to 2017, shows the car completing the sprint in 1.921 seconds, bizarrely heading toward a building.
