A bit of Aussie ingenuity has melded local muscle with German luxury, creating a unique XB hardtop with no shortage of power.

If Max Max wasn’t mad enough for you, one 1974 Ford XB Falcon Coupe owner in Western Australia has created this – the ‘Insane XB’.

Mr Daskalakis has done a few things differently compared to most builds – most notably with the XB’s interior, much of which has been lifted out of a Mercedes-AMG CLA45, according to US website The Drive.

Fitting an AMG interior into a Ford 40 years its elder is no easy feat, but the two vehicles have been blended with the help of analogue gauges bolted into billet aluminium housings, along with an array of rocket switches and finished with a matching Aeroflow shifter.

The XB’s seats have also been lifted out of the AMG, offering a level of lateral support and luxury not normally associated with cars from the 1970s.

Under the bonnet is a 7.0-litre V8 you could eat your dinner off, which sends approximately 522kW to the rear wheels – or 700 horsepower in the old money – via a Ford ‘C6’ automatic transmission and 9.0-inch differential.
