Footy and netball clubs can earn up to $10,000 to promote safer driving at the grassroots level.

More than 250 grassroots sports clubs across Victoria will receive up to $10,000 to help promote road safety in the community.

The Victorian Government and Transport Accident Commission (TAC) have partnered with AFL Victoria to allocate $600,000 to football and netball clubs in an effort to reduce road trauma.

However, the money doesn’t need to be spent promoting road safety, and can be used by the clubs for new equipment, uniforms, or facility upgrades.

Named the TAC Club Rewards Program, sports clubs can apply for the money by submitting photos, videos, social media posts, or written material to show how they’ve been promoting safer driving.

“Road trauma has a significant ripple effect and there’s no denying the power of peer-to-peer support and education at sporting club level,” TAC CEO Tracey Slatter said in a written statement.

“These clubs should be proud of their efforts to create a culture that prioritises road safety.”
