After a series of staggering price rises, US four-wheel-drive specialist Jeep has hit a new sales low in Australia, and is now even outsold by truck companies Isuzu, Hino and Fuso.
US four-wheel-drive specialist Jeep has hit a new low in Australia – ranking 32nd in the sales race last month and so far this year, its lowest position on record.
Jeep Australia reported 655 new vehicles as sold last month – according to data from the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries released today – behind Ssangyong (751 sales) and narrowly ahead of Chinese start-up Chery (603 sales).
Jeep sales are down by 22.3 per cent year-to-date (January through June 2023) in a market that is up by 8.2 per cent amid in a boom in four-wheel-drive sales.
Jeep’s sustained slump is stunning fall from grace after reaching a peak of 30,408 annual sales in 2014 – and a first half-year record for Jeep of 14,207 in the same year.
The slowdown follows sustained price rises – in some cases by as much as $20,000 – over the past three years as Jeep capitalised on strong demand amid tight vehicle supply.
