Toyota Australia has ordered a record number of HiLux utes from the factory this year. If delivered, it will trim waiting times from six to three months.

The waiting times for Australia’s top-selling vehicle – the Toyota HiLux ute – are set to come down in the coming months, following a record factory order.

The Toyota HiLux ute has been Australia’s top-selling vehicle outright for the past seven years in a row – despite the arrival of newer competition.

Now Toyota Australia says it has doubled down – and ordered in excess of 64,000 examples – to meet continued demand for the HiLux, and to stay ahead of the competition.

When asked if the Toyota HiLux could repeat or exceed its record of 64,000 deliveries in Australia last year, the sales and marketing boss of Toyota Australia, Sean Hanley, told Drive: “Let’s just say we ordered to the customer demand, which is high.”

When asked about current waiting times for the Toyota HiLux, Mr Hanley said: “Compared to the RAV4 Hybrid and Camry Hybrid, HiLux (wait times) are quite reasonable.

“The average wait time for a HiLux is about six months at the moment but we expect this year that could come down to three months or less as we expect supply will be significantly better this year.”
