Current Yaris, which made its debut back in 2010, will be replaced next year with a car riding on a platform promising more driving pleasure.
Toyota has unveiled its new GA-B platform, the latest to be spun off from the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA).
GA-B will be used for vehicles smaller than those current residing on the existing GA-C platform, such as the C-HR, Corolla, and Prius.
This fact, combined with the timing of the announcement just ahead of the 2019 Frankfurt motor show, indicates the GA-B platform will be used by the new Yaris.
Dealer sources have told CarAdvice the next-generation Yaris will go on sale in Australia during the first half of 2020. A hybrid joins the local Yaris range for the first time, and will replace the ageing Prius C.
At the front GA-B will utilise MacPherson struts, while at the rear a torsion beam or multi-link suspension setup can be used.
According to Toyota GA-B will be spacious as it has short overhangs, wheels near the corner of each vehicle, and a wide stance. Ride height can be altered to suit both traditional body styles and crossovers.
We’ve already seen the aggressive wheel-at-each-corner look in spy photos captured in July.
Like other TNGA platforms, GA-B will have a low hip point for the driver to ensure the centre of gravity is closer to the ground.
