Toyota Australia has recalled approximately 26,000 of its best-selling cars in Australia, citing a potential software fault.
The recall notice says: “Under particular circumstances, a software error may cause the Vehicle Stability Control system (VSC) to not default to the ‘ON’ status when the vehicle is next started.
“These circumstances are: if the VSC switch is manually turned off and the brake pedal is continuously operated between when the vehicle is shut down and then restarted; this may cause the VSC to not return to the default setting ‘ON’ status at the next ignition cycle.
“This results in a non-compliance with Australian Design Rules (ADR) 88/00.”
Drive has approached the marque in Australia to determine if the fault has been recorded in local vehicles, or if the recall is purely precautionary. This story will be updated with its response.
