Two Tesla drivers have been involved in a skirmish – with one driver shot after being sprayed with mace – during a dispute at a charging station near Denver, Colorado.
A Tesla driver has been taken to hospital after being sprayed with mace and shot at a charging station in the car park of a suburban shopping mall on the outskirts of Denver Colorado overnight.
The other Tesla driver, who pulled the trigger, has handed themselves into police.
Overseas media reported two Tesla drivers became involved in an argument, before one driver sprayed the other with mace and then shot them.
TV news in Denver reported the incident occurred about 10am yesterday local time and that “the shooting suspect called 911, reported what happened” and then handed themselves into police.
Police said the shooting suspect sprayed the other Tesla driver with mace and then fired their gun, wounding the victim.
Local TV news channel Denver 7 said police are now investigating “whether this is a self defence type of situation and what transpired here before the shooting occurred.”
Footage shows about half a dozen Tesla electric cars parked at a charging station near a Shake Shack burger joint, and the area cordoned off with police tape.
The police expect to be able to have plenty of video evidence of the incident, given the external bodywork of Tesla cars are dotted with cameras that record vision even when parked.
Local TV reports said police were in the process of obtaining footage from nearby parked cars “so they could piece together better what happened here.”
TV news footage also showed a black handgun on the ground next to the red jacket.
“Police have a lot of different elements here that they are trying to short through,” Denver 7 TV news reporter Bayan Wang told viewers.
