Car will make its racing debut in January in Peru
The Ssangyong Rexton DKR has been unveiled a month before it enters the 2019 Dakar Rally.
Apart from the badges and doors, the Rexton DKR seems to share very little with the showroom-ready Rexton. The race car’s body is welded to a chrome-molybdenum multi-tubular chassis.
The Rexton DKR is powered by a V8 petrol engine generating around 335kW of power. Weighing around 1900kg, the Rexton DKR can reportedly complete the 0-100km/h standard in 4.4 seconds, and hit a top speed of 195km/h.
Mounted in a rear-central position, the engine is connected to the rear wheels via a six-speed sequential Sadev SL90-23 transmission and a Torsen self-locking differential. The car’s tri-disc clutch can reportedly cope up with up to 1500Nm.
The DKR rides on a 17-inch alloy wheels with Yokohama Geolandar tyres, which can be self-inflated from inside the cabin. It also features AP brakes, King shock absorbers and helical extension springs.
The Rexton DKR will be entered in the T1-3 class for two-wheel drive petrol-powered cars, and will replace the Tivoli-based car that finished 32nd overall in this year’s race.
