Are you taking advantage of the early opening to the ski fields? You’ll need to carry, and maybe fit, snow chains – here’s how

Following a patch of particular chilly weather, early snow falls have seen Australia ski resorts opening a week earlier than intended.

This means you can carve and shred the mountains from midnight tonight.

However, if you are driving to a ski resort in Victoria or New South Wales, you will need to carry, and potentially fit, snow chains.

Since we haven’t had a chance to see the snow line for the past few years, we’ve turned to an older clip where a substantially younger me can show you how to get it done.

While the hair is less grey, the principles of chain fitment are the same.

We always recommend a quick practice at home before you head to the mountains, as there is nothing worse than trying to do this for the first time when it’s cold, dark and snowing!

Remember to check if your car and tyres are compatible with snow chains, and to always take directions from mountain staff as well as taking care on the roads.

Don’t forget alpine diesel either!
