Renault Clio V6 poised for hot-hatch auction record

An ultra-rare Renault Clio V6 is expected to fetch a record price for a hot hatch at auction, when it goes under the hammer in the UK next week.

British online auction house Collecting Cars is expecting the original UK-delivered Clio V6 Phase 2 to draw more than £70,000 (AUD$130,000) when the hammer comes down early next week. The current world record for the Renault Clio V6 is currently £62,540 (AUD$115,500) for a Phase 1, also sold by Collecting Cars.

With an original 980 miles (1577km) on the odometer, the 2003 car is one just 18 British-delivered examples finished in Renault’s striking ‘Liquid Yellow’ paint. And it is one just 1309 Phase 2s ever built.

The Renault Clio V6 Phase 2 was the most powerful hot hatch in the world when it was launched in 2003. Power comes from a mid-mounted 3.0-litre Renault V6, sending 190kW to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual transmission.

Additional enhancements over the Clio V6 Phase 1 include a longer wheelbase and wider track for better handling and stability.

Inside, the Clio V6 is trimmed in black leather with synthetic suede, a leather-wrapped sports steering wheel, and drilled aluminium pedals. Convenience items include air conditioning, electric windows, cruise control and a premium sound system.

The car also comes with all of its original documentation and service history.

The current bid of £65,000 (AUD$120,000) has already exceeded the previous record for a Clio V6.
