A manufacturing defect could tear the Bentley Continental GTC’s airbag when deployed, not inflate properly, and increase the risk of injury to occupants.

Bentley Australia has recalled 60 examples of its 2019-2020 Bentley Continental GTC because one of the luxury convertible’s airbags could tear due to a manufacturing defect – when the safety device is deployed.

The recall notice, lodged with the Department of Infrastructure, says: “Due to a manufacturing issue, the riveting in the airbag deflector bracket may have a sharp edge and could come in contact with the airbag. This could result in a tear in the airbag and reduce its effectiveness.

“In the event of an accident that triggers the airbag, if the airbag is damaged or torn, there is an increased risk of injury and/or death to vehicle occupants.”

Bentley Australia reported 207 Continentals as sold between the start of 2019 and the end of 2022, though it is not known how many of these examples were the GTC convertibles.

Bentley has advised owners to contact their nearest official retailer as soon as possible to have the vehicle inspected and, if necessary, the rework carried out free of charge.
