The GAA Classic Cars’ upcoming auction, scheduled for July 22- 24 in Greensboro, North Carolina, features a docket filled with 650 classic and collector vehicles.
Among the lot is an investment-grade, numbers-matching 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS LS6 454 – an icon of the muscle car era.
The LS6, known for its race-bred 454cid big-block V8 factory rated at 450 horsepower, was available for just one year before emission controls and soaring insurance rates put a stop to big muscle.
The example offered at GAA’s upcoming auction is “one of the nicest 1970 LS6 Chevelle’s available,” the consigner says in the muscle car’s listing.
Before receiving a meticulous nut and bolt rotisserie restoration by Thornton Auto Works, this Chevelle was a rust-free survivor kept original with just one repaint.
“Many of the original markings and overspray remained that Thornton’s Restoration was able to photograph and document to replicate to factory specs during the extensive restoration process,” the consigner says.
“Every component of the car was taken apart, refurbished or replaced if necessary,” the consigner continues. “The focus on quality to attention of detail, fit, finish and correctness is next level.”
The body was resprayed in black with white stripes and wears the correct SS markings. Mirroring the exterior, black bucket seats are matched with black door panels, carpet and dash.
The legendary 454cid engine is paired with an M22 manual transmission, and the car received a stamp inspection by Jerry MacNeish of Camaro Performance.
“There are not many real-deal, numbers-matching documented examples out there,” the consigner says. “This LS6 with its original build sheet and MacNeish pad stamp verification is all of that and unequivocally a number one blue-chip, investment-grade collector car.”
