American-based race team Era Motorsport celebrates its fans with race livery.

Indiana-based race team, Era Motorsport, has turned to the public to design a race livery for its upcoming return to American endurance racing.

The livery design competition was originally run in 2020, and the team had planned to feature the winning livery during that year’s season.

However, the competition was sidelined after Era Motorsport suffered a crash during a practice event at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

This saw the race team unable to complete its rookie season, and utilise the competition winner’s livery in 2020. As it began focusing on returning to the 2021 series, it decided to revisit submissions made through the competition.

The winning design was to now be applied to its No.18 Oreca LMP2 car for the 2021 opening event – the Rolex 24 at Daytona.

A striking design by a six-year old Canadian, named Owen, was chosen. His father is an avid motorsport fan, and had encouraged his son to enter the competition.

Own’s design makes proud use of all three primary colours, and features a lightning bolt along its side.

Upon hearing he’d won the competition, Owen mentioned that he “…chose this design because I like the colours and thunderbolts and flames are cool” and that it was “…fun because my grandpa, dad, and me all like racing and we were stuk (sic) at home during COVID.”

Era Motorsport plans to invite Owen and his father to attend a race meeting once COVID-19 restrictions lift, as fans are currently not allowed to enter the paddock.
