Porsche Taycan sets electric vehicle altitude change record

To set the record, the vehicle started its journey at the lowest point in the United States: Badwater Basin in California’s Death Valley, or 86 metres below sea level.

From here, the Porsche and its crew of four – driven by Japanese drift and hill climb master Dai Yoshihara – travelled across six states and up to the summit of the Pikes Peak mountain in Colorado, some 4302 metres above sea level.

In total, the vehicle ascended 4842.967 metres, with Guinness World Records recognising the attempt.

As a fun fact, the oxygen available to the crew fell by 40 per cent by the time they reached the top.

The record-setting Taycan 4S Cross Turismo is powered by dual electric motors developing 420kW during periods of ‘overboost’, paired with a 93.4kWh battery offering 436km of claimed range.
