An estimated 2500 Volkswagen Group vehicles are adrift and ablaze in the middle of the world’s second-largest ocean.
No Australian-ordered Porsche cars were damaged in a high-profile ship blaze on the Atlantic ocean overnight, Drive understands.
The Felicity Ace – a 200m-long vehicle carrier built in 2005 – was transporting approximately 2500 Volkswagen Group cars from Germany to North America, when a fire broke out.
All 22 crew members were safely evacuated, however the boat remained burning and adrift as of Thursday night (AEST).
The condition of its cargo – which is confirmed to include Porsche vehicles, and likely also comprises a range of Audis and Volkswagens – is yet to be confirmed.
“We are aware of an incident involving a third-party cargo ship transporting Volkswagen Group vehicles across the Atlantic … there were no Australia-bound Porsche vehicles on this ship,” a spokesperson for Porsche Australia told Drive.
