According to ABS census data, as at 31 January 2021, there were 20.1 million registered vehicles in Australia. And sometimes, it feels like every single one of them is on the road in front of you. And while the same statistics don’t exist for how many of those cars typically transport just one person, anecdotally – and by simply taking a look around you – the majority of car trips are seemingly undertaken by a single, lone rider.

Better yet, find two or three neighbours with similar commutes to work, and the savings on fuel and the benefits to the environment begin to accelerate rapidly. Imagine, for one minute, having to only buy fuel for your car once a fortnight, or once every three or four weeks. How much money would that save you?

So, ask around, ask your neighbours, ask your colleagues, and if circumstances align, take turns driving each other to work and to home. You’ll love the extra cash in your pocket, and you’ll be doing your bid to reduce emissions.
