Amid chronic stock shortages and extended new-car waiting times, a fresh shipment of Hyundai Tucson SUVs could help cut the queue.

While the global automotive industry continues to struggle with widespread delivery delays, there may finally be some good news around the corner.
Hyundai Australia says it has just received a shipment of 2000 unsold and unallocated Tucson diesel mid-size SUVs – and another 1000 examples are on the way.
A company representative says buyers can walk into a showroom today and pocket the keys to a 2022 Hyundai Tucson diesel Elite or Highlander.
“In the supply-restricted conditions we’re facing currently, it makes a change to have some good news to talk about,” Hyundai Australia spokesman Bill Thomas told Drive.
Numbers provided to Drive indicate about 1000 examples of the Hyundai Tucson Elite diesel, and about 1100 examples of the Hyundai Tucson Highlander diesel are available to order for immediate delivery.
An additional 1000 Tucson SUVs are scheduled for production in May, with local arrivals due weeks later.
“That’s approximately 3000 new Tucsons in total available for buyers either right now, or within a month,” said Mr Thomas. “Our factory in Korea has been able to build us a generous number of diesel Tucsons, following a long period of restricted supply.”
The new Hyundai Tucson is available in either front-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive when equipped with a petrol engine.
The diesel model range comprises both Elite and Highlander variants, and are available with eight-speed automatic transmission with on-demand all-wheel-drive.
Pricing starts from $45,400 and $52,400 plus on-road costs for those two grades respectively.
“The 2000 vehicles on the ground now are ready to go, and the second batch of 1000 will be with us within a month, so we’d urge customers to talk to their local Hyundai dealer about a zero-delay diesel Tucson,” said Mr Thomas.
“We expect all of them to be snapped up quite quickly given the supply challenges faced across the sector.”
The Hyundai Tucson is currently the sixth-best seller the medium SUV segment, in which there are more than two dozen rivals.
Last year, the Hyundai Tucson was the fourth most popular SUV in the segment, with 14,194 sales.
That places Tucson behind perennial favourite (and Drive Car Of The Year segment winner), the Toyota RAV4, which dominated the segment with 35,751 sales in 2021.
Mazda ranked in second place in the class with the CX-5, while the Mitsubishi Outlander was the third most popular medium SUV in Australia last year.
