First ever fully plugged-in “G-Class” will go on-sale next year with exact details still unknown.
Its world debut set to take place next year, Mercedes-Benz has released the clearest teaser images yet of the all-electric G-Class that will be sold under the dedicated electric EQ brand.
Reality soon

Appearing to be the production model, wrapped in comparatively thin layers of a unique black-and-blue “electric” disguise, the images released by Mercedes-Benz’s official twitter page, now X, doesn’t provide any further details apart from stating that the EQG will be a “real G” in spite of swapping the combustion engine for an electric unit.

Still to be seen inside, the teasers do, however, confirm the presence of the squared-off spare wheel cover affixed to the tailgate, which in the concept housed the charging cables instead of the spare wheel, as evident by the comparatively smaller design.
Little toned down otherwise from the concept that bowed at the IAA Motor Show in Munich two years ago, bar the different alloy wheels, the EQG will also herald the introduction of the new W464 G-Class as production of the current W463 will wrap-up in March next year according to information obtained by the MB Passion online forum.
Although set to retain a body-on-frame platform, the structure will be different from that of the combustion engine W464 G-Class, which will become the beneficiary of a new kinetic suspension system when it goes into production.
Power of four
Up front, and behind the sealed grille, which is expected to feature the illuminated three-pointed star that debuted on the concept, Benz has remained silent on making reference to any of the EQG’s power details, though a quad-motor configuration has been mentioned.
At the launch of the concept, it was reported that two variants will be offered; the EQG 560 and the EQG 580, the latter developing 373 kW while being able to travel 500 km on a single charge. Since then though, neither the models nor the figures have been commented on.
More expected soon
With the release of the mentioned images, don’t be surprised if more snaps, including possible technical details, emerge before the end of 2023.
