If you drive a Mercedes-Benz or Mercedes-AMG product, you can now wear eyewear created with design elements from those vehicles. Mercedes’ parent Daimler has announced a joint design project with Berlin eyewear company ic! berlin with five new models coming to market.
“The designers of both brands have worked hand in hand to develop a design language that goes far beyond a pure logo cooperation,” according to the news release.
The Mercedes-Benz logo is laser etches onto the eyewear temples.
The styles include AMG 02 and MB 05 designed for men, MB 06 for women, and two unisex designs — MB Shield 02 and MB 04.
“The collection proves how our design philosophy of ‘sensual clarity’ can be expressed in different styles — from classic and elegant to sporty and futuristic — in the form of eyewear,” Martin Bremer, head of creation corporate design at Mercedes, is quoted.
“For me, it was important to develop a wide range of formal interpretations, analogous to the range of our vehicles, in order to appeal to different customers. The high aesthetic standards, which include the continual reinterpretation of stylistic elements which create the identity of both partners, form a convincing product with the goal of maximum functionality. This goal is also inherent in both companies.”
“We want to show that something very special can arise in the eyewear segment when two design-savvy brands as ic! berlin and Mercedes-Benz team up,” added ic! berlin lead designer Harry Skinner.
ic! berlin was founded in 1996 and has become known for its lightweight eyewear and its screwless joint designs.
