The electric performance sedan will go on sale in Australia during the first half of next year.
It’s unclear if right-hand-drive examples have begun rolling off the assembly line, however Drive understands production of Australia-bound vehicles is imminent.
A spokesperson for the Mercedes-Benz Australia said: “We’re excited to be introducing the EQS 53 to the Australian market. First arrivals are expected from April 2022.”
Dual motors in the Mercedes-AMG EQS53 send a combined 560kW/949Nm to all four wheels, when fitted with the AMG Dynamic Plus package.
This allows the 0-100km/h sprint to be completed in a claimed 3.4 seconds, on the way to an electronically-capped top speed of 220km/h.

While the flagship AMG variant will be the only option when the model initially goes on sale in Australia, cheaper variants are expected to follow.
Local pricing is yet to be confirmed, however Drive understands Mercedes-Benz is targeting approximate parity between comparable petrol S-Class and electric EQS models.
