One of the big things that made the Maserati MC20’s reveal so special was that it was supposed to be powered by a totally new V-8 that was built in-house by Maserati – something that would have marked an end to the company borrowing engines from Ferrari.
Later on, we learned that the Nettuno V-6 was at least Ferrari derived, and after that, we learned that it was essentially Ferrari’s F154 engine with a different head – something that increased its compression to 11:1 but otherwise, it’s mostly identical. Now a new report claims that Maserati doesn’t want to share its reworked engine to keep it “proprietary.”
